Letter from Dad

Isaac,

Today, we went to see doctor together, and the doctor said your birthmark on the face is something called "Nevus of Ota". The doctor said the dark area on your face will not fade away, and will continue to grow with you.

When I heard this, I felt like a rock hit my heart.

You have been such a merry little boy to us. You always like to laugh, and are such a confident little boy. What I am worried most is that, if in the future, people are not nice to you because of your face, you will become upset. But, please, don't feel upset ever.

Be confident in yourself. You are a smart little boy. The sky is your limit. Don't let down by those people who do not appreciate you because of your appearance. I know it is a hard lesson for a little boy to understand. But it is true that inner beauty is much more important that appearance.

Dad and Mom will always love you. Heavenly Father will always be with you.

You will always be our merry little boy.

--Dad

P.S. We will continue to pray for the cure, and look for the best medical care. Laser surgery may be able to improve the condition, but we don't know more details about it until we can get to visit the surgeon. The condition also increases risk for some rare disease related to the eyes, and nervous system, but we hope that the condition will never turn malign. For all those who see this letter, please pray for baby Isaac. It's not just how good the little one look, but it is also the self-confidence of a person. Please pray for the little boy.

Hi Baby Issac, Peter and Beverly,

As a dad, I can totally understand the feeling - the rock that hit your heart and probably broke it into pieces.

For us who believe that there is a divine God, I believe that it's all part of God's plan. Maybe it's a challenge for us, for Issac, and maybe it's a special blessing for Issac that we just somehow do not understand.

Regardless, as you pointed out, don't be distracted by the outward appearance. No matter how this develops, I am sure Issac will forever be this lovely little boy in everyone's heart, and I am confident that he'll be able to stand on his own when he grows up. We all have our own shortcomings, we survive and grow stronger, Issac will be able to do the same.

You guys will always be in my prayers!

Derek

Hi Baby Issac,

I am heartbroken when I learnt from your daddy that you have this condition. While knowing it can be a challenge when you grow up, I have complete confidence that under the tender loving care of mommy and daddy, you will grow up strongly regardless. With the support of a loving family, your confidence and perseverance, the sky is your limit, like your father says. Looking forward to talking to you when you start to talk!

Love always,
Uncle Lenny.

Hey Peter and Beverly,

I am very touched with your post. I know it is tough for you both.
Recently I was troubled by some personal stuffs in my life, I was praying to God, and suddenly one day, I saw two rainbows on the sky at the same time. I think this is a miracle to me and I do think God always has the best plan for us, including little Issac.
Remember, there will be rainbow after the rain.

Hi Baby Issac,

A true man should not worry about how he look. So, you don't need to worry about the mark on your face. Be healthy and strong. If other little kids make fun of you, just make sure you teach them a lesson for laughing at you.

Dear Peter and Beverly,

Being parents ourselves, we could easily relate to your disappointment and pain as we read Peter's letter to Issac. We were really moved by Peter's thoughts and message for Issac. We were reminded how strong a parent's love could be for a child.

Under his parents' loving care and guidance, we have no doubt that Isaac will continue to be the "merry little boy" that he is today. No flaw in outer appearance could ever dampen that kind of merry heart and spirit.

Peter and Beverly,

I am very feel for you as a parents having seen the beloved going through this.

However, do trust in god and be joyful for God might have great plan for Issac. There is a very famous US architect called Louis Kahn. His face was burned with hot water when he was 7 years old. However, it is because of this mark make him a very strong-will person to finish the task that he was meant to do. He was one of the most important and famous architect in this century.

Moroever, with the support from you and your family and God. I am sure he will be strong person.

I will keep praying for you on this matter and wish that God will heal.

Best wishes.

Dear Peter and Bev,

I am so gutted to hear the news. I was really touched reading the blog; the love and devotion to Isaac is so palpable that only a heartless person will fail feeling moved. Its pretty usless for me to ask you not to worry about it, because I am not in your shoes, but I believe there is always some sort of solution in the end of the day, which at least partially, if not totally in this case, solve the problem. Just do not forget to take care of yourself while taking care of Issac. He is always beautiful. You have my most admiration and respect as parents and I think it's just incredible.

Hi Peter and Bev,

I can see how much Issac meant to you guys and how hard it must have hit you two to learnt this news. However he's still so young and chances are things deemed incurable today might have a solution (at least a partial one) 20 years later.

We will keep your family in our prayers. All unfortunate happenings will have a way out eventually. God would not bestow on you more than you can handle.

/Patrick

Thank you for all your care and prayers. Yesterday, we took Isaac to see ophthalmologist(eye doctor), and the doctor said the condition did not affect his eyesight. She told us not to worry too much at this time, and just make sure that we should take Isaac to see ophthalmologist every year. However, as of now, there is no way to remove the dark pigments on his eyewhite. He just has to live with this condition. Next, we will take him to see dermatologist on Thursday.
